Welsh Scientists outperforming world average for research

Economy, Science and Transport Minister Edwina Hart has paid tribute to Welsh Scientists who are outperforming their counterparts from other nations in the field of research.

During an update for AMs on developments in Science in Wales, the Minister revealed statistics from the recently published Elsevier report, an independent report jointly commissioned by the Welsh Government with Welsh Universities and HEFCW which show Wales is performing at 58% above the world average.

The report shows Wales, with a population of around just 3 million, produces 0.14 per cent of the world’s scientists, 0.30 per cent of published articles and, most impressively, 0.70 per cent of the most highly cited publications.
