I want to see a Welsh Labour Party which is outward looking – which is engaged in direct conversations with people outside our Party, as much as inside it.

There’s a great deal to build on here in Wales, but we have to be a Party which is open to new ways of doing the business of politics as were those who have gone before us.

I think there’s no substitute for direct contact with people – in person and on the doorstep. But we live, too, in a world where there are many other ways to keep in touch – not least through websites like this one.

In this way we renew our determination to stand up for the beliefs which have always been at the heart of Labour in Wales – a fairer society, a more equal society, a society in which the needs of those at the back of the queue are more important to us than those who can already look after themselves.
