All political parties need to go through a process of renewal. Labour is doing just that, with a review of our policies and our policy-making process at the UK level.

In the meantime, here in Wales, the same thing is going on.

I want a Labour Party here in Wales which has a set of policies which reflect the nature of politics here – a left-of-centre Party, in a left-of-centre place.

At the Assembly that means focusing on those core public services which make the greatest difference to every day life – health, education, housing, transport and so on.

Nationally, it means an economic policy which demonstrates, loud and clear that there is an alternative to the deeply destructive approach of the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats.

But it’s important to have as wide a debate about the future focus of Welsh Labour policy as possible.
