Mark Drakeford AM looks forward to cheaper and more convenient rail tickets

Mark has welcomed the news that train travel on the Valley Lines network will be cheaper for commuters, and that there will be extra options to purchase tickets.

Season ticket price increases on all Arriva Trains Wales’ Welsh routes will be held below the RPI inflation measure (3.1%) for January 2014, which translates to a real-terms decrease. This contrasts to the RPI + 3% maximum increase announced for England.

There will also be a trial of smart ticketing for mobile phones on Valley Lines services, plus a review of the zonal fares system currently in place on the Valley Lines network. Initially, this will include the elimination of Zone Six fares on the Maesteg line to bring it into line with fares on other Valley Lines routes.

These measures will help with the impact of increasing prices for commuters and passengers travelling into Cardiff West, and help Cardiff West residents who use the services in and out of Llandaff, Radyr, Danescourt, Fairwater, Waun-Gron Park, and Ninian Park.
