With the cold weather just about upon us, Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water is asking customers to join its ‘Wrap Up Wales’ campaign to help them avoid the disruption and inconvenience that frozen water pipes cause many households and businesses. They are urging people to spend a few moments to protect their pipes from bursting and causing damage that can run into thousands of pounds.
The problem is usually linked to pipes that are exposed to very low temperatures, such as those in garages and outhouses, that expand when it freezes, causing a burst when they thaw. A repair on these pipes – which are the responsibility of the customer – is then urgently needed. The average repair cost for burst pipe damage during the 2010 cold snap was £7,000.
Their website has advice on how to prevent pipes freezing – www.dwrcymru.com. There is also an opportunity on our website for customers to apply for one of the 1,000 free lagging kits they are giving away.
